Red Vine is a shrub with a climbing stem that can reach a height of 20–30 meters. The bark is dark brown, while the branches range in color from yellowish brown to reddish brown.

The leaves, the part most widely used in cosmetics, are rounded and have three or five lobes. The flowers are grouped in panicles, positioned opposite the leaves.

The fruits are oval berries grouped in clusters and are not necessarily red: they may also be almost black, green, or yellow. The juicy flesh contains one to four pear-shaped, woody seeds, which are also used in cosmetics — grapeseed oil is obtained from them.

The Properties of Vitis Vinifera Leaf Extract

Red Vine leaf extract has properties of great interest in cosmetics. It contains high percentages of antioxidant molecules: tannins, polyphenols, anthocyanins, stilbenes, and bioflavonoids.

These substances provide excellent protective action against free radicals, which cause oxidative stress and cell damage. Free radicals are formed through exposure to UV rays, smoke, and pollution: they degrade the fatty acids in the skin and alter the structure of collagen.
