Liftonin-xpert eco: the plant-based collagen booster

Liftonin®-xpert eco is a cosmetic active ingredient that stimulates collagen production, obtained from the sap of the leaves of Bulbine frutescens, a South African succulent plant.

What is Liftonin®-xpert eco

Bulbine frutescens grows in the arid valleys of South Africa and produces a gelatinous sap that allows it to retain water and nutrients. It has long been used in traditional local medicine to help heal wounds, burns, and sunburn.

Two active compounds are obtained from the extract and work together:

• Acetylated polymannose (APM): stimulates fibroblasts and activates collagen synthesis, with an immunoregulatory action as well;
• Knipholone: reduces the level of collagenase — the enzymes that break down collagen — and limits fibroblast overstimulation.

The active ingredient is certified by ECOCERT, COSMOS, NATRUE and complies with the Nagoya Protocol on biodiversity.

Why collagen quality matters more than quantity

This is what makes Liftonin different from other collagen boosters, and it deserves an explanation.

Skin progressively loses collagen with age, and the balance between synthesis and degradation shifts in favor of the latter. The instinctive response would be to stimulate production as much as possible. However, research has shown that not all collagen is the same.

There are two main types in the skin: type I collagen, which provides strength, and type III collagen, known as the “youth collagen,” made up of thin, highly organized reticular fibers that provide the framework for type I collagen synthesis. Type III collagen is the one that decreases most rapidly with age.

Many cosmetic boosters work by stimulating the TGF-β receptor, the growth factor released by the body in response to an injury. The problem is that this pathway produces “repair” collagen: parallel, poorly cross-linked fibers without elastin — the same structure as scar tissue. Effective for closing a wound, but less useful for skin that needs to remain elastic.

Liftonin®-xpert eco works differently: APM stimulates fibroblasts, while knipholone keeps inflammation under control and prevents overstimulation. The result is regulated production rather than maximized production.

Documented effects

The manufacturer reports results in several areas: improved appearance of wrinkles, increased firmness and elasticity in the neck and eye-contour areas, visible reduction of stretch marks, and a soothing effect on irritated skin.

Regarding timing, tests indicate an increase in cell proliferation as early as 72 hours after application, with effects on wrinkles measurable over approximately 84 days of consistent use.

As with all patented cosmetic active ingredients, these data come from the manufacturer’s tests and not from independent clinical studies published in peer-reviewed journals. The percentages found in technical data sheets generally express a relative improvement compared with a placebo, not an absolute change in the skin: they should be understood as indications of efficacy, not promises of results.

Where it is used

Liftonin®-xpert eco is used on the face, neck, and body, both in lifting treatments and to reshape facial contours. It is particularly suitable for:

• mature skin with loss of tone and sagging facial contours;
• the eye-contour and neck areas, where the skin is thinner;
• skin that has experienced stress or thinning, including skin during menopause;
• situations requiring a soothing action in addition to a plumping effect.

Liftonin®-xpert eco in Alba face cream

We chose this active ingredient as the star of Alba, the firming face cream, where it works alongside three other components that act on complementary fronts: Olea Vitae™, derived from olive oil, which supports cellular energy metabolism; Viniderm®, rich in grape polyphenols, with an antioxidant action; and organic Mimosa extract, with a soothing effect.

Shea butter completes the formula, providing nourishment.
