'The Verbascum in skincare: the flower that brightens the skin'

'The Verbascum in skincare: the flower that brightens the skin'

Having glowing skin is everyone's dream, yet skin radiance comes from various intrinsic factors as well as external conditions to which the skin is subjected daily.

A few simple gestures are enough to improve skin brightness, including avoiding exposure to the sun without protection and having a good skincare routine. Environmental pollution, moreover, can damage the skin and encourage premature photoaging, which is why it is also necessary to use anti-pollution products before going out in the city.

Thanks to the combination of science and nature, it is possible to harness the luminescent properties of the Verbascum, a truly amazing bright yellow flower whose extract can give the skin a luminous, youthful, and healthy appearance.

What is Mullein?

The Verbasco is a plant found within the Mediterranean area and it blooms twice a year. Its flowers are known and recognizable thanks to their bright yellow color.

His name, verbascum thapsus it means precisely "to shine" while thapsus refers to the Greek settlement near Syracuse. The energy of the verbascum flower is truly special and its light is visible and bright, which is why it is an ideal ingredient for illuminating the skin and more. Clinical studies demonstrate the effectiveness of verbascum oil as a topical treatment for weak nails.

In addition to protecting and strengthening nails from damage and fungal infections, mullein oil is an ally for chapped lips and soothing for sunburns. The oil extracted from the mullein flower is therefore a valuable resource for the beauty routine and is a testament to how functional cosmetics still have many natural resources to utilize for beauty.

The properties of Mullein for the skin

Its active ingredient is based on luminescence: the phytocomplex of mullein has the property of protecting the skin from harmful UV radiation by transforming the light source so that it radiates from the skin.

In this sense, the main benefit of mullein on the skin comes from its ability to make the skin glow naturally and brighten the complexion while protecting against harmful sun rays.

This phenomenon, which can be traced back to luminescence, is mainly due to the presence of polyphenolic compounds found directly in the flower and in the extract derived from it. Luminescence is a communicative phenomenon of the flower's petals that is activated to attract pollinating insects and thus reproduce.

The verbascum complex derives from the enzymatic bioliquefaction of the flower and exploits the luminescent capabilities of the flower. The luminescence is able to absorb UV radiation thanks to its ability to re-emit, through a longer wavelength, the electromagnetic radiation it receives. In practice, it translates it into a new source of light that seems to be generated directly from the skin.

In this sense, the mallow extract used on the skin helps to protect the skin from the oxidative effects caused by harmful solar rays, as well as to reduce photo-oxidative stress while simultaneously providing brightness and iridescence.

Anti-aging effects of mullein

The mullein is composed of sterols and verbascoside with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. For this reason, mullein acts as an anti-inflammatory for redness and irritations, as well as for skin inflammations. This contributes to having healthier skin that is also visibly more beautiful.

Verbascoside has protective effects for the skin and at the same time promotes collagen production, thereby improving skin elasticity. In this way, the skin will appear firmer and smoother. Verbascoside also has protective effects against UV rays and environmental stress factors, such as pollution.

Protecting the skin from oxidation caused by free radicals is the key to keeping it young and healthy. These properties, combined with the brightening capabilities of mullein, help to counteract the onset of signs and wrinkles, redness, and sunburn. Mullein improves the skin's balance as it acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory for topical use and enhances the skin's response to stress.
