Azeloglicina®: the multifunctional active ingredient against imperfections that fights acne

Azeloglicina® is one of those active ingredients that are particularly appreciated not only for their effectiveness but especially for their versatility. Azeloglicina overcomes these problems: also known as Potassium Azeloyl di-Glycinate, this molecule offers a very high solubility in water and ensures a high specific activity even at low concentrations.

How Does Azeloglicina® Work?

Azeloglicina® combines the properties of azelaic acid and glycine to offer a complete skin treatment. At the same time, glycine protects and hydrates the skin, strengthening the skin barrier and keeping it elastic and radiant.

Thanks to its sebum-regulating action, this active ingredient reduces excess oiliness, minimizes enlarged pores, and prevents the formation of new imperfections. Additionally, it inhibits the proliferation of Cutibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne, promoting cleaner skin free from impurities.

The sebum-normalizing activity has been demonstrated through in vivo studies conducted on a sample of 5 women aged between 30 and 50 who used a solution of Azeloglicina® at 3% twice a day. The results of the study showed a significant decrease in sebum production specifically in the areas of the face most prone to shine, such as the forehead, nose, and chin. The reduction varies from -27% on the nose and reaches -31.5% on the chin.

Another benefit of using Azeloglicina® concerns the brightening of the complexion. Azeloglicina® is able to visibly improve the appearance of the skin, giving it a fresh finish and a more intense radiance.

The active ingredient works through depigmentation by acting directly on the melanocytes, inhibiting the synthesis of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin discolorations. Therefore, on one hand, it brightens the skin by intensifying the luminous effect of the skin by up to +5.4% brightness. On the other hand, it lightens spots and prevents the formation of new discolorations related to both age-related hyperpigmentation and the marks left by comedones or acne pimples. 

Azeloglicina® is therefore an excellent skin perfecter, which smooths, brightens, and illuminates by eliminating skin spots and reducing melanin by 6% in just 28 days of treatment. 

Thanks to its stability and versatility, Azeloglicina® is used in a variety of cosmetic products, including brightening creams, treatments for hyperpigmentation, anti-aging products, and sebum-regulating formulations for oily or acne-prone skin.

Furthermore, its sebonormalizing properties make it suitable for products intended for hair care, where it can help reduce hair loss by inhibiting the 5α-reductase enzyme.

In just 3 weeks, Azeloglicina® has indeed brought about a 12.7% improvement in skin hydration on the forehead and an 8.2% improvement on the cheeks, while skin elasticity has increased on the forehead by up to +2.5%.
