L'sesame oil is obtained from the seeds of Sesamum indicum. It belongs to the family of vegetable oils and is the traditional Ayurvedic massage oil, where it has been used for millennia in body treatments.
Its distinctive feature is its lignans — sesamol, sesamin, sesamolin — antioxidant compounds that protect the oil from rancidity in the plant. On the skin, they perform the same function, counteracting the oxidation of skin lipids caused by free radicals. Alongside these, the oil contains linoleic and oleic acids in balanced proportions, as well as a proportion of vitamin E that completes its protective profile.
It is suitable for dry and dull-looking skin, and for evening treatments, when it has time to work without interference. Apply it to still-damp skin; it absorbs easily and leaves a nourished feeling without greasiness.
It is among the most stable vegetable oils over time, precisely because of the lignans it contains: a quality that translates into formulas that retain their characteristics until the last application. In massage traditions, it is also appreciated for its smooth glide, which allows for long, continuous strokes without the need to reapply.
