Tea tree oil

Tea tree essential oil tea tree is obtained by distilling the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, an Australian tree. It belongs to the family of essential oils and is the one with the most extensive scientific literature behind it.

The key molecule is terpinen-4-ol, the most studied component of the phytocomplex and the one used to assess the quality of tea tree oil. On the skin, it helps maintain the balance of the skin's surface and reduce the appearance of redness in blemishes. It is also recognized for antioxidant activity that complements its primary action.

It is used in formulas for oily and blemish-prone skin, where it pairs well with sebum-regulating ingredients. It should always be used diluted in a formula: undiluted, it can be irritating, and it is one of the few essential oils for which the difference between proper and improper use is so clear-cut.

It is an ingredient that makes a purifying routine more complete without adding harshness: it works on the surface while other active ingredients target sebum production and the appearance of pores. This combination makes it possible to treat blemished skin without stripping it.

On our blog, you'll find the complete guide to tea tree oil, with concentrations and usage precautions.
