Sage

L'sage essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves of Salvia officinalis. It belongs to the family of essential oils and carries with it one of the plants most deeply rooted in Mediterranean tradition, whose name derives from the Latin salvus, meaning healthy.

The characteristic components are thujone, camphor, and cineole, which give it its intense, distinctive herbal note. The plant is also rich in rosmarinic acid and flavonoids, antioxidant compounds that, in the tradition of plant-based cosmetics, have led to its use on skin prone to excess sebum.

It is used in body treatments and purifying formulas, where the aromatic component accompanies the application. As it is an essential oil, it is used at very low concentrations, always diluted within the formula.

Its fragrance is among the most distinctive in natural cosmetics: crisp, green, and not at all sweet. In a body treatment, it helps create a recognizable olfactory identity, which is part of what makes a product memorable.
