The extract of mallow is obtained from the flowers and leaves of Malva sylvestris. It belongs to the family of plant-based emollients and is one of the oldest plants in European herbal tradition, appearing in herbals since ancient times.
The main component is mucilage, polysaccharides that form a gel on contact with water and spread into a film on the skin, reducing friction and the sensation of tightness. Alongside these are anthocyanins, the characteristic purple pigments of the flower, which provide antioxidant support to protect the skin's surface.
It is suitable for sensitive skin that is easily irritated, where comfort matters as much as results, and in formulas designed for daily use on reactive skin. It works within the product in which it is formulated, with no leave-on time or frequency limits.
It pairs well with active ingredients that require support: the film it forms makes the presence of more demanding ingredients in the formula more comfortable, and this is one way a product for delicate skin can still be effective instead of merely avoiding irritation. It works on the same terrain as the skin barrier, which protects against external factors while mallow reduces surface friction.
