L'sweet almond oil is obtained by pressing the seeds of Prunus amygdalus dulcis. It belongs to the family of emollient plant oils and is one of the few cosmetic ingredients used continuously from ancient times to the present day without ever going out of fashion.
Its composition is dominated byoleic acid, accompanied by linoleic acid and vitamin E. On the skin, it forms a film that reduces water loss and restores softness, with a fatty acid profile very close to that of skin lipids: this affinity explains its rapid absorption and never-heavy feel.
It is used on dry skin and very delicate skin, in oil cleansing and in body products. It has traditionally been used for babies' and pregnant women's skin, which says a lot about its tolerability profile. Apply it to still-damp skin to seal in the water already present.
It is one of the most versatile oils in formulations: it dissolves makeup and oil-soluble impurities during cleansing, nourishes in leave-on products, and in both cases leaves a feeling of comfort that lasts beyond rinsing. Anyone with a tree nut allergy should consult their doctor first.
