Echinacea extract echinacea used in cosmetics is obtained from the root ofEchinacea angustifolia. It belongs to the group of plant extracts with a firming and moisturizing action, and the root contains the plant's most interesting fraction.
It contains alkylamides and polysaccharides, with two complementary effects. Alkylamides produce a sensation of slight skin tightening that can be felt shortly after application—the immediate sign that the product is working. Polysaccharides form a film that retains water on the surface and extends its effect throughout the day.
It is found in serums for skin that has lost firmness, where it complements moisturizing actives by adding a result that is visible immediately. It works within the product in which it is formulated, morning and evening.
It is one of the few plant extracts capable of producing an immediately perceptible response, which is why it pairs well with actives that work over longer periods: while peptides and antioxidants build results, echinacea gives the skin an immediate effect. Echinacea belongs to the Asteraceae family, like chamomile and calendula; people allergic to those pollens should try it on a small area first.
