The bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme extracted from the stem and fruit of the pineapple. It belongs to the family of enzymatic exfoliants: the third approach toexfoliation, alongside the mechanical action of scrubs and the chemical action of acids, and the most selective of the three.
The dead cells in the stratum corneum remain attached through protein bridges called desmosomes, and bromelain acts like molecular scissors that cut exactly those bonds. No friction is needed, nor is there any need to lower the skin's pH. And it has a quality that no other method possesses: the enzyme works as long as it finds substrate, then stops on its own. The exfoliation is self-limiting by design, so it cannot go beyond what is necessary.
It is the preferred choice for those with reactive skin and who do not tolerate acids or scrubs: a dull complexion, rough texture, skin that seems to no longer absorb anything. Use it once or twice a week, in the evening, following the indicated application times. The improvement in radiance is visible from the very first application.
Enzymes are delicate molecules: temperature and storage affect their activity, which is why an enzymatic formula must be protected from heat and used within the indicated time frame. People with a pineapple or latex allergy may react due to cross-reactivity, so it is advisable to test it first on a small area.
