The papain is a proteolytic enzyme extracted from the latex of the unripe fruit of Carica papaya. It belongs to the family of enzymatic exfoliants, which renew the surface without mechanical friction and without lowering the skin’s pH.
It acts on the protein bonds that anchor dead cells to the stratum corneum, dissolving them and allowing their natural detachment. Compared with other enzymes, it works across a wider pH range, making it particularly stable within formulas, and its action ceases when the substrate is depleted: exfoliation cannot go beyond what is necessary.
It is suitable for uneven texture and dull complexion, especially for those who do not tolerate scrubs and acids. Use it once or twice a week in the evening, respecting the recommended application time. The skin appears brighter and more receptive from the very first application.
It works well in combination with other enzymes, because each one recognizes different protein sequences: together they cover a broader range of bonds and distribute the work instead of concentrating it. Anyone with a latex or papaya allergy should first test it on a small area.
