The Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, abbreviated SAP, is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin C. It belongs to the antioxidant family and was developed to solve the best-known problem of pure ascorbic acid: its instability.
The molecule is protected by a phosphate group that prevents it from oxidizing while the product remains in the bottle. Once applied to the skin, skin phosphatases remove it and release active vitamin C. This is a gradual, not immediate, release: less intense than that of pure ascorbic acid, but consistent over time and without the risk of the serum turning yellow before it is finished.
It works oncomplexion evenness by acting on tyrosinase, the enzyme that initiates melanin production, and supports collagen synthesis. In LeLang formulas, it appears in the Perlage cream and Spot Defence sunscreen, where it complements the filters with antioxidant protection. Use it morning and evening; changes in skin tone become noticeable after four to six weeks.
It is among the best-tolerated formsof vitamin C because it works at a pH close to physiological pH and does not require the acidic environment of pure ascorbic acid: a quality that also makes it suitable for people with reactive skin who cannot tolerate traditional forms of vitamin C.
