Roman chamomile

L'Roman chamomile essential oil is obtained by distilling the flower heads ofAnthemis nobilis. The name is misleading: it is not the same plant as common chamomile, Chamomilla recutita, but a distinct species with a different composition.

The difference is visible at a glance: distilled common chamomile produces a blueoil, due to the chamazulene that forms during distillation. Roman chamomile does not. Its volatile fraction is dominated by angelate esters, which give it a sweet, fruity aroma and a profile more geared toward comfort and relaxation than addressing redness.

In LeLang formulas, it appears in body treatments and the purifying face mask, where the aromatic component contributes to the result just as much as the functional one. Like any essential oil, it is used at very low concentrations, always diluted in the formula.

It is one of the most expensive essential oils: the distillation yield is extremely low, which is why it appears in only a few selected formulas. It belongs to the Asteraceae family: anyone allergic to ragweed or mugwort should try it on a small area first.
