L'Acetyl Tetrapeptide-40 is a biomimetic peptide made up of four amino acids. It belongs to the family of peptides enzyme inhibitors and is one of the few cosmetic active ingredients developed specifically for diffuse facial redness.
The persistent redness stems from a specific chain: kallikrein 5 activates cathelicidin LL-37, and an excess of the latter promotes the dilation of superficial capillaries. The peptide acts precisely at this step, reducing the amount of active cathelicidin. It is a targeted mechanism, different from the approach of traditional soothing agents that work on the symptom: here, action is taken upstream, on the molecule that generates it.
It is designed for skin that flushes easily: redness on the cheeks and nose, reactions to temperature changes, and capillaries visible through the skin. Use it morning and evening, and available tests document a visible reduction in redness intensity after eight weeks of consistent application. Pairing it with daily sun protection reinforces the result, because the sun is the factor that most stresses this type of skin.
It works best when combined with soothing active ingredients, because the best results for redness come from combining action on the enzyme with a reduction in the stimuli that activate it.
