The sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It belongs to the humectant family and is, in fact, the form in which hyaluronic acid appears in almost all cosmetics: if you read Sodium Hyaluronate on the label rather than Hyaluronic Acid, it is not a fallback—it is the most common formulation choice.
The difference lies in molecular weight and stability. Pure hyaluronic acid has long chains that remain on the surface and form a film that retains water. The salt has smaller molecules, withstands heat and pH changes better, and reaches the outermost layers of the epidermis rather than stopping on top. The two are not mutually exclusive: the best formulas use them together, at different molecular weights, to work at multiple levels.
In LeLang formulas, it is by far the most widely used ingredient: it appears in serums, face creams, eye contours, and masks. Apply it to slightly damp skin and always follow with a cream or oil: without something to seal it in, a humectant in a dry environment may draw water from the underlying layers rather than from the air.
