L'sweet almond extract is obtained from the seeds of Prunus amygdalus dulcis through extraction. It is a raw material distinct from almond oil, which is obtained from the same seed by pressing: the oil contains the fatty fraction, while the extract contains the protein and sugar fractions.
The seed contains proteins and oligosaccharides that retain water on the skin and leave it feeling soft. Since it is not greasy, the extract can be used where an oil would feel heavy or be rinsed away without leaving anything behind: this is why it is found in cleansers.
In LeLang formulas, it appears in the shower gel, where it softens the degreasing effect of surfactants and leaves the skin feeling less tight after rinsing. Almond oil, on the other hand, remains in formulas that stay on the skin—body creams and masks.
A note for anyone with allergies: although it is derived from tree nuts, topical application is different from ingestion. Anyone with a confirmed almond allergy should nevertheless try it first on a small area or consult their doctor.
