L'Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, commercially known as Argireline®, is a biomimetic peptide made up of six amino acids. It belongs to the family of active ingredients that act on neuromuscular signal transmission, the field of neurocosmetics, and is one of the most studied in its category.
It acts by interfering with the protein SNAP-25, one of the components of the SNARE complex that regulates the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. The result is less intense contraction of the facial muscles and, consequently, a visible reduction in the folds caused by repeated movement—especially around the eyes and mouth. The effect is gradual, superficial, and reversible: it lasts as long as the product is used consistently and does not alter facial expressiveness.
It is suitable for dynamic wrinkles —crow's feet, forehead lines, and perioral wrinkles—while its effect is more limited on those already structured in the dermis. It is well tolerated even by sensitive skin and is used morning and evening, before moisturizer. The first changes are generally seen after four weeks of consistent application.
One important clarification: functional cosmetics do not replace aesthetic medicine. A topical peptide works on the surface, with much lower intensity and reversibly compared with an injectable treatment, which is a medical procedure. The available efficacy data come from tests conducted by the ingredient manufacturer.
