Il Versillin, in INCI Hydrolyzed Elastin, is elastin broken down into smaller fragments. It belongs to the family of hydrolyzed proteins and is one of the two fibers that give the dermis its structure: collagen provides strength, while elastin gives the skin the ability to return to its original shape.
Whole elastin is a molecule that is too large for use in cosmetics. Thehydrolysis breaks it down into peptides that spread across the surface and form a film with unique properties: not rigid like polysaccharide films, but elastic, able to follow facial movements without breaking. The skin appears more relaxed precisely where movement is continuous.
It is suitable for loss of elasticity, a condition in which pinched skin returns to place more slowly than it used to. It is used in serum, morning and evening; the surface effect is noticeable immediately.
It naturally pairs with peptides that work on collagen, because the two fibers work together in the dermis, and neither one alone explains the firmness of the face. This is why it appears in serums built around collagen: it completes the concept instead of repeating it.
