L'hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, in INCI Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, is hyaluronic acid whose chains have been broken into shorter fragments. The result is a form with a lower molecular weight, lighter than the native molecule.

How it works on the skin

Long chains remain on the surface and form a film that retains water; short fragments spread more easily into the superficial layers of the stratum corneum, where they complete hydration. This is why the hydrolyzed form is associated with more widespread hydration and a visible improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. What molecular weight does it have

According to the supplier's data sheet, its molecular weight is listed as between 20,000 and 70,000 daltons, compared with one million and above for longer native chains: this difference in size explains its different behavior on the skin.
